IN-GROWING TOE NAILS Some people have one or many in-growing toenails. Often they are due to damage for example an injury but sometimes they are an inherited problem. Treatment depends upon their cause. Patients may have conservative treatment involving regular examination and relief of pain under a maintenance programme or they may choose a surgical permanent removal of the ingrowing part of the nail under local anaesthesia. We will always discuss and advise the best option for each individual patient. VERRUCAE Are a viral infection of the skin by the human papilloma virus. They are warts. Some are painful, others are not. They vary in size and shape and only require removal if painful or spreading. If treatment is indicated then a short course of acid therapy will be advised. This will entail several treatments at usually 3 week intervals to eradicate the problem. CORNS AND CALLUS Are areas of painful hardskin. These can occur on toes, between toes, under toenails, and on the soles of feet. Often they are caused by ill -fitting shoes but sometimes it may be due to the way we walk or just the wrong sort of shoes. HEEL PAIN A very painful condition usually with many possible causes. heila was born in Belfast and left Ireland to study Podiatry at Salford qualifying in 1980. After several years in the NHS she returned to university to study for a post-graduate Health Science degree. Her career has included many years as a part-time lecturer in Podiatry at Northampton School of Podiatry and was also the Podiatrist to the Northampton Town Football Club for 15 years. The Podiatry practice has been at Langham Place, Barrack Road for 26 years. We have a special interest in providing excellent podiatry care for all our patients, young and old, in a relaxing and friendly environment.
