Keith Barton is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Glaucoma Specialist at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Honorary Reader in the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. His areas of interest are the surgical management of glaucoma, especially surgical devices and secondary glaucomas. At Moorfields he runs one of the few clinics in the world dedicated to the managment of glaucoma secondary to uveitis. He has been an investigator in the Tube versus Trabeculectomy Study and co-chair of the Ahmed Baerveldt Comparison Study. He is currently a member of the Primary Tube Versus Trabeculectomy (PTVT) Study steering committtee, chief investigator in the Corneal Ancillary Study to the PTVT Study and a member of the trial management committees of both the Treatment of Advanced Glaucoma (TAGS) and Lasers in Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension (LIGHT) Studies. His medical school education was in Belfast followed by residency training at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and a fellowship in Cornea and External Eye Disease at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami. He was director of the glaucoma service at Moorfields Eye Hospital from 2005 - 2011, has been Chairman of the International Glaucoma Association (Registered Charity) since 2012 and Editor-in-Chief of the British Journal of Ophthalmology from 2014. He was also Hong Leong Visiting Professor, National University of Singapore from 2011 - 2014. In 2012, in collaboration with his friend and colleague, Kuldev Singh, Keith co-founded and organised Ophthalmology Futures Forums, industry investor meetings in Ophthalmology. Keith has been involved in charitable work and population-based research in Ghana, West Africa as an investigator in the Tema Eye Survey. He regularly takes part in sporting events, more recently raising money for Moorfields Eye Charity and the International Glaucoma Association. He has completed 5 marathons including Boston and has twice completed the Berlin Marathon.
