Charles is a highly experienced knee and sports injuries surgeon working both in the NHS and in the private sectors. He has private clinics in BMI The Harbour Hospital in Poole, The Nuffield Hospital Bournemouth, and the Bournemouth Private Clinic. He provides personal compassionate care to his patients and treats them in the way he would expect for his family. He has considerable expertise in knee arthroscopy, ACL reconstruction, running knee pain, running injuries, shockwave therapy and sports injuries. He also performs significant volumes of knee replacement surgery using the latest techniques Mako Robot-assisted surgery and Drive patient-specific instruments. He has done pioneering work on single tendon ACL grafts and ALL anterolateral ligament reconstruction to make cruciate ligament reconstruction more reliable and less damaging. He teaches at an international level. Past patients include royalty, world champions, and people of national importance.
Charles is also a respected expert witness for the Civil courts in personal injury and clinical negligence cases, and an expert witness for the GMC.
His current research interests are in improving post-operative recovery with better sleep, and exploring ways to measure this, and interventions to optimise it.
Charles is an elite cyclist and has represented GB on two occasions as well and an ex elite marathon runner and he rowed for Oxford University in various crews. He has a passion for sport and testing himself to the limit.
