Mr Athanasios Vergados is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon working for the Barts Health NHS Trust since 2017 and is currently working at Whipps Cross University Hospital as a Glaucoma specialist and at Newham University Hospital as the Glaucoma Lead.
Mr Vergados qualified in Medicine in 2004 from a renowned university in Northern Italy, University of Brescia. He then undertook postgraduate training in Ophthalmology at the University clinic of Athens in 2013, where he was also awarded with a Fellowship, as well as a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
More impressively, he completed a PhD in Ophthalmology from Athens University Medical School. He focussed particularly on Preperimetric changes in pseudoexfoliative Glaucoma. Mr Vergados then moved to the UK and completed a 2-year Fellowship in clinical and surgical glaucoma at Birmingham and Midlands Eye Centre, which is known to be a prestigious institution in Micro invasive glaucoma surgery. In 2016, he worked as a Glaucoma Consultant at James Paget University Hospital (JPUH) NHS Trust, before moving to London.
